Great map! Great idea, well executed. But it's missing a bunch of stations, at least in the spot I checked: Kingston, R.I., Westerly, R.I., Bridgeport, Conn., Mystic, Conn., Route 128, Mass., Boston (Back Bay), Mass., etc.
Thank you fakf1. This "unoffical map" will be used next Friday as part of an offical Amtrak meeting as to what Amtak should be doing. I will be sure to give you credit for it. Thanks for the kick in the butt. : )
The quality of passenger services at the present time is rather important. The company should necessarily operate across the whole country to be able to stay on the market. At www.pissedconsumer.com I found out that Amtrak is the National Railroad Passenger Corporation. The company operates passenger service on routes across the continental United States of America connecting hundreds of destinations in 48 states; routes to Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. In addition to the passenger service, Amtrak expanded into freight transportation market and now operates a captive bus service. I think the company is worth trusting.
Neat idea but I would suggest you use real rail data (mapped from a GIS etc) to depict the routes. Straight lines between stops is more schematic than an actual map.

check the Regional line.
suggestion: group the routes by region or something so it's easier to deal with them.
It's funny how Amtrak's own route maps suck... or not so funny!

ReplyDeleteOn the Illinois Service between Chicago and St. Louis: the Alton, IL station is labeled Alton, MO.
